Northern Quarter Arts Ltd. grew out of The Northern Quarter Association which was a highly innovative and successful association of residents, artists and businesses first formed in 1993 to promote the economic and cultural regeneration of part of Manchester City Centre. NQA Ltd. is joining with the residents of Manchester to expand the tide of collective groups coming together to create a cultural, interactive autonomous space where people are free: free to be, free to create, and free to express themselves.
In 2002/2003 NQA Ltd., with the assistance of private developers like The Department Store Ltd., developed the gallery space and meeting room/roof garden with the help of Arts Council England North West. The main purpose for these facilities was to provide spaces for artists and arts organisations. It is able to take full advantage of the existing arts festivals and celebration in the community as well as enhance the experience for the citizens.
